In the article, an analysis of solutions to six problems of geometrical character at the beginning of school attendance is shown. Problems were assigned to students individually and were evaluated from different points of view. The previous research was focused mainly on their arithmetical competence. But geometry also belongs in primary education. Therefore we prepared an analogous investigation which was focused on geometrical competence. The experiment confirms that our children have, at the beginning of school attendance, a good level of visual appreciation of their surrounding world. Our schools do not systematically develop further this skill.

This paper investigates the practices of proof education in Korea by analyzing the teaching and learning of proofs in classes in the second year of middle school. With this purpose, this study examines the features and deficiencies of the ways of teaching proofs and investigates the difficulties which students have in learning them. Furthermore, it suggests methods for the improvement of teaching proofs.

To investigate the relationship between the College Entrance Examination(CEE) exams and high school teaching-learning, we conducted a questionnaire survey and collected 2439 valid questionnaires with 16000 teachers involved. This paper discusses the topic with data gathered from the survey, and statistics on CEE examinations over the past few years. The following three questions will be addressed in detail: 1. As a talent selection test for colleges, can the CEE exams single out the elite students in high school? 2. Should the testing objectives of the CEE exams match the teaching objectives in high school so as to have a positive backwash effect on high school teaching and learning? 3. How do teachers assess the CEE exams from the angles of test structure, the functions of individual item types, reforms on test difficulties, and its actual checking effects?

We conducted a survey with the objective of studying the teachers` perspective of their students` learning in traditional calculus and its teaching strategies. This survey was targeted at mathematics teachers of the junior colleges, polytechnics and universities in Singapore. In this paper we present findings of the first part of our survey. The first part addresses various issues related to the mathematics teachers` perception of the current status of calculus education in Singapore. The findings of this study will be unique in Singapore context because, according to the best of our knowledge, no such survey on calculus education has ever been undertaken in Singapore.
